Filter the IV group

Filter sizes as small as 0.22 microns are used to filter bacteria, and up to 5 microns filter larger particles.

Exhaust type IV group

Vented IV kits, also known as vented IV tubes, are ideal for hard plastic or glass containers. The exhaust IV unit has a small vent that can be opened and closed to allow air to enter and displace the liquid as it leaves. No liquid will flow out of a rigid IV container unless it is vented.

Non-vented intravenous infusion set

Non-vented IV kits are the opposite of vented IV kits - they do not have any vent in the pipe. Non-vented IV kits are suitable for flexible plastic containers, for example

The non-exhaust pipe must also be perfused to drain air from the pipe. The non-vent pipe allows a vacuum to be created inside the plastic IV bag for folding when emptied.

The gravity of tubing

Gravity tubes, or gravity delivery devices, rely on gravity and a flow rate regulator to deliver the drug into the patient. The gravity infusion rate can be set to drops per minute, which corresponds to an infusion rate of milliliters per hour.

An example of a gravity tube is our dial-up flow tube. With gravity infusion, the bag hangs on a pole above the patient, and gravity creates the pressure needed to deliver the drug.

What is the use of an IV infusion set?

First, let's define what IV stands for -- intravenous therapy. Group IV is used for controlled infusion of drugs, usually over a long period of time. Group IV is used to attach the drug to a needle inserted into the patient. IV extension units are also used to extend IV lines without causing contamination.

How fast and slow can I set the IV drip?

With an IV dosing device, you can adjust the flow rate faster or slower depending on the drug you are infusing and the prescription command. If you are using a mechanical pump such as a Freedom 60 syringe pump, you can set faster infusion rates with extreme accuracy. For gravity pumps, the roller clamp is the unit in group IV that controls flow.

The infusion device maintains a constant 13.5 psi pressure and uses precision restrictor tubes. It also has built-in fail-safe mechanisms, such as differential pressure reduction.

As the pressure at the infusion site increases, the flow rate will decrease proportionally to the increase. This increases confidence and precision when delivering more rapid fluids.

If you use A manual Flow regulator like A Dial-a-flow tube, you will be able to set A range of Flow rates, but the Flow rate will be in 25 drops increments of 50 ml per hour. The IV flow regulator also provides drip rates from 0 ml per hour to 500 ml per hour.

Although slightly less accurate than mechanical pumps, the cost of manual flow regulators is significantly reduced, making them ideal for daily infusion needs.

How does the height of the bag affect the speed of infusion?

In gravity infusion, the height of the bag directly affects the pressure applied to the fluid in the line. When more pressure is applied to the line, fluid can be injected more quickly.

The rate of infusion may also be affected by the location of the patient. When the patient lies down and then sits up, the rate of infusion may be slowed. This is why you will see nurses using gravity fluids to check the IV regularly.

What's the difference between a microdroplet and a macrodroplet?

At a very basic level, microdroppers are used by people receiving small amounts of intravenous drugs. The macro dropper is much larger and therefore better suited for delivering larger doses of liquid.

The microdropper typically delivers 60 GTT /mL, meaning it will deliver 1 mL in 60 drops. This makes it ideal for handling more precise drip rates. Microdroppers are often used for medications that require more care.

Macro dropper can deliver between 10 GTT /mL and 15 GTT /mL. This means only 10 drops can be injected into one milliliter. This type of pipe is used when a large amount of fluid, such as a saline solution, is injected quickly.
